On Monday India has successfully flight tested the indigenously-developed hypersonic technology demonstrator vehicle or HSTDV. HSTDV is based on hypersonic propulsion technologies which is developed in DRDO lab.

After this successful launch India has entered the elite club of ‘Hypersonic Technology’. Only USA, Russia and China are the three countries to successfully achieve hypersonic technology.

According to officials at DRDO, HSTDV powers cruise missile and it can attain a speed of nearly Mach 6. This missile operates on scramjet engines, which is far better than earlier ramjet engine, officials said.

The testing was initiated at 11 am today from A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Testing range (formerly Whiller Island).

According to DRDO officials HSTDV was able to attain a height of 32 km within 20 seconds. From this unmanned vehicle it is possible to launch missiles. In future it can also be used for launching satellites at very low cost, officials said.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in his tweet congratulated the DRDO on the eve of successful demonstration of HSTDV flight. He has tagged it as an ‘landmark success’ and a step forward toward ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ in defence sector.
