ISRO ANNOUNCED TO LAUNCH CHANDRAYAAN-3 MISSION EARLY IN 2021
ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) is planning to launch its Chandrayaan-3 mission in early 2021. The announcement was made by Union Minister Jitendra Singh. This time the plan is to land a rover on the surface of moon, no orbiter to be included in the mission this time. The already orbiting orbiter from the Chandrayaan-2 mission will create a communication link to the lander/rover back to the ISRO control room.
On July,22 last year Chandrayaan-2 was launched carrying an orbiter, a lander and a rover. However, the landed didn’t soft landed on the lunar surface in the partial successful mission of ISRO.
The images transmitted by Chandrayaan-1 suggests rusty surface near the lunar poles. The surface of the Moon having iron rich rocks is well known to the scientists but the rust indicates presence of something else – water and oxygen. If this is found to be true by analyzing the samples from the poles, a new feather of success will be added to the crown of ISRO. It is notable that earlier Chandrayaan-1 data revealed the presence of water in the exosphere of Moon, on the lunar surface and also in areas tens of meters deep from surface.
